Three new paintings have been uploaded.
I have been spending the last three weeks working on underpaintings for my annual series on horse drawn sap collecting. Go to my facebook fan page to view the underpainting for one of the pieces. I almost always begin my work like this, with a raw sienna colored monochrome painting, to establish values and composition and, in the case of something as complex as this, to make sure that all the harness fits the horses, that the pole connects at the proper angle to represent the draft, etc.
I've done an annual series of sap collecting every year for at least ten or twelve years. Most of the paintings are first exhibited at the Stonewall Farm Sap Collecting Contest (this year, March 24) in Keene, NH, then move on to galleries from there. I have ten or twelve pieces completed to this stage, and will now be working with the layers of color!
